7... MY BROTHER-IN-LAW Adam was over and we were all hanging out watching the basketball game. Upset by a play, oblivious to the toddler in the midst, and in full testosterone form, Adam screams to the TV, "WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? YOU GOD DAMN STUPID MOTHER FUCKER!!!" Without missing a beat, 3 1/2 year-old Justin blurts out, "Uncle Adam, we don't say 'stupid'!" Posted by at December 30, 2000 04:43 PM

Tigers announce 2001 ticket prices
Tigers announce 2001 ticket prices DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Tigers are either keeping ticket prices the same or lowering them for next season, depending on the section at Comerica Park. The price of the top box seats will remain at $60 in the ballpark's second season. the Tigers said Wednesday. Several sections of what had been $60 Tiger Den tickets -- in sections 116-118 and 138-141 -- will be cut to $35 and renamed terrace seats. Extra-wide, padded club seats in the first six rows of the upper level surrounding the infield will be reduced from $50 to $35, and outfield box seats in sections 107-111 in the right-field corner will be reduced from $25 to $15. Ticket prices for 11 seating categories will remain unchanged.Ticket prices going down?! At least we know what team did NOT pay $252 million for one player. . .

Nancy Gist, director of Reno's Bureau of Justice Assistance, estimates that "hundreds of thousands" receive ineffective legal counsel every year. The African connection is rather tenuous, but it appears to be the most likely. The earliest recorded use of jazz to refer to the style of music is from 1916. A slightly earlier usage of jazz, meaning full of vigor and energy, dates from 1913, which supports the African theory. Another contemporary usage dates from 1918 and means copulation, and is probably related to the slang term "jism." Posted by at December 22, 2000 06:27 PM

I suppose it's safe to
I suppose it's safe to confess: I knew all along that Al would never be president. The Republicans would never run a sleazy ignorant felon of Dubya's proportions unless they knew they had a lock on the election -- and I don't necessarily mean blackmailing them Democrats in some weird and conspiratical piratical way, although that's possible -- Republicans having a worse secret than Watergate is what kept them from retaliating back then, so likely the Democrats having a worse problem than making a president or whether Bill had sex with anyone and they're hoping to just ride it out. But that notwithstanding, I knew the whole time that Al wasn't going to be president. It's like when someone dies and you still see them in the old familiar places; I could see a great absence of Al in the White House. Impossible to say; for someone who puts as much stock in The Almighty Word as I do to say the truth, especially during these foolish last weeks, for one more person to say it might be enough. The entire time I had this sinking evil down my bones -- I suspect many of us did -- that Al was for some ugly, but not unfathomable, reason, a less attractive candidate to the American people than that fetid criminal Dubya. Y'see, Dubya won't make that much difference to you if you're an American reader. The president can't actually do that much to his own people. But Americans never lost their taste for owning slaves. They just do it larger scale now, and they whip their neighbors instead of their relatives. There may well not be two clean drops of water in all of Canada to rub together at the end of this one. Right now, examples of demand aggregation seem almost trivial, but that situation will soon change. Consider MobShop.com, which lets consumers join with others to become mass buyers. On offer recently, for example, was an AcerPower 8600 computer with a suggested retail price of $2,405. If one to five consumers register to buy the machine, the price would drop to $2,049; with between six and 15 buyers, the price would fall to $1,999.95, and so on. The more buyers, the lower the price. Posted by at December 12, 2000 07:05 AM

Myhrvold: Genomics Will Rule
"Genomics is the next industry that will undergo this kind of explosion," Myhrvold said. "It will rival anything the computer or communication industries gave done up until now. It has the potential to reshape the entire world economy in exactly the same way information technology has." Again, in harmony, "Well duh!". Anyone who doesn't see the enormous probabilities of gene-tailored technology simply hasn't been awake in the last twenty years. However, like the Internet, which provides communications power without communications skill resulting in barrels of whaledreck being poured over a few slim needles of information, gene-tailoring will provide longer lifespan without understanding of the nature of life. Doesn't anybody else see how this is a bottle waiting to be smashed along the diagonal? All of this comes from the idea that the heart, or the soul, is as magical and mysterious as the Black Plague. Which it is: EXACTLY as magical and mysterious as the Black Plague. Posted by at December 11, 2000 06:51 AM December 10, 2000

The Second Coming Project
The Second Coming Project
The Second Coming Project is a not-for-profit organization devoted to bringing about the Second Coming of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, as prophesied in the Bible, in time for the 2,000th anniversary of his birth. Our intention is to clone Jesus, utilizing techniques pioneered at the Roslin Institute in Scotland, by taking an incorrupt cell from one of the many Holy Relics of Jesus' blood and body that are preserved in churches throughout the world, extracting its DNA, and inserting into an unfertilized human egg (oocyte), through the now-proven biological process called nuclear transfer. The fertilized egg, now the zygote of Jesus Christ, will be implanted into the womb of a young virginal woman (who has volunteered of her own accord), who will then bring the baby Jesus to term in a second Virgin Birth. Some hardware to go with MisterHouse. This is ridiculously affordable; you could make your whole house programmable for less than the cost of a half-decent teevee. Have it turn on the radio when you're supposed to wake up, turn on the light in your room, turn on the shower... It probably can't dry you yet, but that's for version 2.0. I have on my
I have on my desk a small fat round clay bottle, with white and bronze glaze. My thumb on the base, I can trace the signature, Guy Duguay. So, for Guy, an artist who died to AIDS, if for no one else, Moon Farmer observes Day Without Weblogs. If you're feeling really civic, go to the Guy Duguay Virtual Gallery and buy a Guy Duguay from his widow, Louisa Barton-Duguay. Posted by at December 01, 2000 06:16 AM |
