I did a bit of I did a bit of post human web diving and found these recent arcticles. This artcle on Inter@Active Week lead me to Kurzweil Technologies and a pointer to what looks like some interesting reading (AGE OF SPIRITUAL MACHINES; WHEN COMPUTERS EXCEED HUMAN INTELLIGENCE )-- AND some poetry written by a program. I will post a review of the book after I finish reading it.

So I looked around Blogger So I looked around Blogger and inasmuch as they're providing a nice service, damn near all the personal weblogs on it are the same kind of thing that I was doing in Auntie in late December '97. This is enormously boring. The internet is a huge powerful medium and we're using it for enormously stupid things. There must be more that it can be used for -- and I don't just mean more of the same nonsense that anybody can do with print. This is not just a 3-D medium, this is a completely non-dimensional medium -- or at least it can fake non-dimensional. However, most of the time it's used for nothing more sophisticated than easy footnoting.

I don't mean this populist nonsense about using the Internet to cure all ills, social or otherwise, either. That'll happen anyway. The biggest ill, though, is being ridden by agendas, and that's what we should be focusing on. Non-linear expositions. I know the human brain is primarily binary -- on or off -- because we mostly have two of things and in some cases we have ten of things so we also like tens. Maybe all I want is better drugs, drugs tailored to produce an experience similar to all but entirely private to all -- what constitutes joy to one person doesn't to another. Music can do that and some abstract art can but very little else does. Anybody know a good chemist? -- GT
